Statement by John McCain on the Tenth Anniversary of the Embassy Bombings ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain issued the following statement on the tenth anniversary of the embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania: "Today marks the 10th anniversary of the al Qaeda terrorist attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 225 people, including 12 Americans, and injured thousands others. The attacks made it painfully clear that al Qaeda's terrorist call to arms to attack Americans anywhere in the world was not an empty threat. The attacks proved the vulnerability of U.S. installations overseas, and demonstrated -- to any that needed further evidence -- that al Qaeda was a well-funded, organized and treacherous terrorist organization determined to kill Americans. Tragically, the U.S. response to the 1998 embassy bombings was wholly inadequate in addressing the threat posed by Al Qaeda despite the horrific toll of the embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. Too many Clinton Administration officials refused to act effectively to counter the dangers posed by al Qaeda. Three years later, al Qaeda's commitment to kill was devastatingly brought to our soil. While four of the terrorist perpetrators have been convicted of terrorism offenses in New York and are serving life sentences, Osama bin Laden, and his top deputy, Ayman al Zawahiri, remain at large.

ICYMI: John McCain On Creating Jobs In America "What we need today is an economic surge. ... Now we need an economic surge to keep jobs here at home and create new ones. We need to reduce the tax burden on businesses that choose to make their home in the United States of America. We need to open new markets to U.S. products. And we need to reduce the cost of healthcare, and we need to end the out of control spending in Washington that's putting our debt on the backs of our children." -- John McCain John McCain Media Availability Jackson, OH August 6, 2008 John McCain: "It's time to get America's economy moving again. Companies like Merillat and families across Ohio face challenges in their businesses and around the kitchen table, and obviously energy prices are too high. We're losing jobs. Our housing market is on the decline, and the cost of everything is going up, and in the face of this, Washington is on vacation. In the face of a severe energy crisis, the Congress decides to go on a five-week vacation.

The ad highlights Barack Obama's support for higher taxes and increased government spending that will only put more burdens on America's small businesses and cost jobs.
