Confusion and Contradictions Fuel Assassination Conspiracies

More details are emerging today regarding the actions taken immediately following Benazir Bhutto's assassination. The new revelations reveal a scene more chaotic than initially thought. Athar Minallah, a lawyer and board member for Rawalpindi General Hospital claims Pakistani police prevented an autopsy on Benazir Bhutto. Aziz Saud the police chief at the center of the allegations is telling various media outlets that he suggested an autopsy be performed, but that Bhutto's family objected. If the allegations against Saud are true, it would be a violation of Pakistani law, according to Minallah.

There have been conflicting reports as to the cause of death of Mrs. Bhutto. Initial reports after the assassination claimed she was shot in the neck. Pakistan's Interior Ministry initially claimed the cause of death was shrapnel from the explosion that followed the gunshots. A few hours later they claimed Bhutto died from a skull fracture that occurred as she ducked into her vehicle and hit her head on the sunroof latch. The Pakistani government has offered to exhume Bhutto's body, but her family refused.
