Government is going to give out $600 to $1200 checks to jumpstart economy

A deal was reached today between the White House and Congress to give out $600 to individual taxpayers and $1200 checks to taxpayer couples to jumpstart the economy. The checks will be paid out to anyone who paid income taxes last year or paid social security taxes.

Basically anyone who worked at all last year will be getting some kind of rebate. Considering Social Secuirty taxes are about 8% an individual would only have to make $7500 to get the full rebate. There is also talk of giving an additional $300 rebate out for each child. So a family of four could be elgible to receive an $1800 check.
Checks will be mailed out by the Treasury most likely by June 2008. The downside of this is that it will double this years deficit spending by the goverment to $320 Billion from $160 Billion and will be piling on more debt for our future generations to pay back. Leave it to the goverment to pay Peter by stealing from Paul to use an old adage.

my complaint is that the white house or treasury whomever handles the
earned income business to try a new method for honest people whom
have to pay taxes to investigate more about the people claiming kids
to get the earned income, lots ofpeople dont even have kids and they
receive it, just by showing ss# what is that you should make people
show bith certific or something with mother and kid names o***t
.people claim other kids and they half the money. can this problem
be fixed?

I would like to know what you are going to do about the people who
have worked all their lives and now are on soc. sec. and disabled ,
should they not be included in this ? Don't you think those who have
supported this country and you deserve to also get a credit for their
part ? We are the also people who are struggling financially, we live
on a fixed income's . We don't have the choice to go get a job, to
earn money's to help pay for our every day needs. Thank you Joan A.

You are the worst President I have ever known--your Father is the
second worst

how dare you think only of the families when millions of seniors are
hurting--cannot pay their medical bills--and the infirm have no
choice--you are a lousy President who thinks only of the rich--and
never thinks of those who are hurting

Dear Mr. President: What makes you think that I want a $600 "rebate"
when it actually cuts the normal amount of my 2008 tax refunds in
half? I'm going to need that money to pay my property taxes next
year a lot more than I need $600.00 dollars now. Also, how about
the individuals and families who don't pay taxes but are getting a
"rebate." Are they suddenly going to have to pay three hundred
dollars to the IRS next year? Is it fair to expect taxpayers to
lose out on a full refund next year so we can subsidize people who
don't even PAY taxes? Yes, there are people who could figure out
that $600 dollars now is $600 dollares less to them in the following
year's refund. Dear Mr. President: Thank you for continuing to be
the idiot we've expected you to be for the last seven-plus
years. How do I send back this "rebate" check so it can be added
to next year's refund as it SHOULD BE.
