In the race to take Iowa the Republican candidates debated the issues last night. It was pretty much a mild mannered affair. It was dominated by the lesser known candidates like Alan Keyes and Ron Paul. Keyes did not believe he was being asked enough questions. Ron Paul talked about cutting back many government functions including the department of Education and overseas military bases. Romney, Hucakabee, Thompson and Giuliani the apparent front runners in the election did nothing to hurt themselves.
Huckabee who had surged to the top of the Iowa polls in the past week seemed to be a target of the other candidates but it did not materialize. Huckabee and Romney are fighting for the same core conservative Christian voters. Giuliani stayed true to his center policies in the debate.
Thompson became annoyed with the commentator asking for a yes or no answer on an environmental question. At the end of the debate not much had really changed.
