Secret Service Does Not Allow WhiteHouse.com to Photograph Obama Bus

WhiteHouse.com Exclusive: In a crazy incident WhiteHouse.com tried to take a picture of Barack Obama's bus to put on the website but was rebuffed by the Secret Service detail at his campaign stop. We traveled several hours by car to see the electrifying Barack Obama in person to get a feel for the electricity he shares with his supporters. The campaign stop held 2500 people but about 3000 people including ourselves showed up. Click on arrow to start video. (Video is 5 Minutes in length)
We waited outside for about an hour with hundreds of supporters until the Fire Marshall signaled that they would not let anybody else in due to overcrowding concerns. From there we walked around the facility to get a picture of his bus and maybe get a picture of him leaving the facility. We were quickly confronted by police who would not allow us to even stay on a public sidewalk which was 40 feet from the bus.

When we came around to take a photo of the bus for this website we were quickly confronted by a Secret Service person who demanded we not take any pictures of his bus. We felt this was amazing considering as you can see in the video, we have been able to go right up to most of the other candidates. We shook hands hands with several of the candidates and even with President Bill Clinton with Secret Service all around him. We even got a campaign question in to Fred Thompson which he gladly answered at a press conference.

We left, even though we felt we were in the right . We did not want to inflame the situation as we understand special security procedures have been put in place due to Barack Obama's historic run for the White House.

We are asking our audience to comment on whether you would have stayed and protected your Free Speech rights or would you have left as we did. We also want to know if you think the Secret Service were out of line in their actions? Just remember you did not see a picture of his bus on WhiteHouse.com. Click on arrow to start video. You can also adjust sound by clicking on volume control in lower right corner.

If your child was about to fall in the cliff, wouldn't you believe on
saving him? I am asking this question because I believe I have to die
for what I believe in. You shouldn't have left the scene, yet with
the understanding of the SS agents that they were doing their work by
not allowing you to invade the privacy and respect of the
ex-president of the US. Next time you should stand your ground even
if the situation does not allow you.

You show yourselves approaching a cpl (R)candidates along with Mrs
Clinton, but you never show footage of either of their buses in
complete detail. So your intent to do so with Obamas leads me to ask
what is your point or intent by attempting to capture such footage.
In a country where civil and constitutional rights are being deprived
I must say that the actions of SS agents was warranted considering
his race for presidency expands beyond political determination but
also from a racial view as well. So the actions of SS displays the
democracy we still have in place and must continue to fight for.

I think they can do whatever they want in the name of protecting
candidates. That is their job and they need to be the best to provide
the best protection for their clients.

I would have walked away as I would not have wanted to be arrested. I
do not think they were in their rights but they are the ones who make
the rules.

Posted by Kale on 2/1/2008 12:07:35 PM
We are fighting in Iraq to keep America Free and here in our own
country we have people not getting the rights they deserve.

Freedom of speech is crucial to a democracy, absolutely. But you
know, it's just a picture of a bus. Is there something we need to
know about that bus? I don't think that protecting the security of a
candidate's home, bus or whatever is necessarily a threat to freedom
of the press. If the secret service had tried to stop you from
reporting on the experience you had, that would be. But here you are
living to tell the tale. I'm sorry if I'm not picking up on a
horrible infringement on freedom of speech.

georgieporgie - I think it's easy to say you would have stood up for
your rights until you have a secret service agent in your
face......................the one guy did keep saying they were on a
public sidewalk and he didn't care if it was the secret service.

Posted by gerorieporgie on 2/1/2008 10:18:08 AM
I would have stood up for my rights!

Posted by sam posey on 2/1/2008 3:44:58 AM
the secret service is there to protect.if something happened to the
person they would get blamed, you cant fault them, its whatever it
takes.

Posted by Iba on 1/31/2008 11:25:45 PM
I do not want this o***ry to turn into Russia or China where the
press is severly restricted. The first step in ending democracy is to
get rid of the press.

Posted by Paul on 1/31/2008 11:23:26 PM
We go to war to protect freedom of speech in other countries but we
do not practice what we preach in this country.

Obama and Hillary are the far left of the party. He was voted the
most liberal Senator and she was the 16th most liberal Senator.
People do not want to pay more taxes and that is why people do not
like them.

Posted by Ted on 1/31/2008 11:14:07 PM
They were both great tonight in the debate. Either one of them wpould
be a good president as long as they stay away from the far left of
the party.

Posted by Orr on 1/31/2008 10:51:29 PM
Obama is such a good guy and he talked about Edwards right out of the
gate and praising him for his role in the campaign which was great.
that is why some people do not like him as he brings people together.

Posted by Robert on 1/31/2008 10:49:20 PM
Obama is great. He is a uniter and he is bringing some many new
people into the party and the political process. They have to protect
him from people who do not want to see that happen.

Posted by Dave on 1/31/2008 10:41:21 PM
All the candidates have some risk and Obama's risk may be higher than
others but it does give someone the right to trample on people's
rights

Posted by Peter on 1/31/2008 10:28:51 PM
They cannot stop you from taking a picture. That is outlandish. You
are in a public area at a public event. They needed to calm down a
little bit.

Posted by Tim on 1/31/2008 10:25:33 PM
It's the normal USSS paranoia. These folks have been tasked with the
unenviable job of protecting the first viable minority presidential
candidate and they are going to be uber-careful, to the point of
paranoia, with Mr. Obama's protection. You think security is tight
now, wait and see what happens if he wins the nomination and needs to
come down south to campaign!

Posted by Jim on 1/31/2008 10:22:53 PM
You have Al Qaeda out there who want to mess up our elections and
make us look bad. We have to be strong and look out for them.

Posted by Hally on 1/31/2008 10:20:19 PM
There are so many nuts out there who would want to make a name for
themselves by going after Barack. That is why they need to act the
way they do. It is simple self preservation.
