3.1 Trillion $ Budget Day Brings Cheer, Joy to Eager Legislators

There's only one day better than Christmas, and that's budget day. That's right, today, the day President Bush sends his massively flawed multi-trillion dollar budget for Congress to further pack with their own countless earmarks and then approve practically unanimously, flooding patrons and pet projects with untold federal dollars. Hooray!

This years budget, which the President assures us is the very model of fiscal restraint and measured miserlyness, weighs in at a mere $3.1 trillion dollars, which, in case you're wondering, is more money mere mortals dwelling outside the walls of the magical realm of Congress can even fathom. And it's not even done yet! But don't let the massive size of the budget and the frequent use of words like "entitlement" and "discretionary" fool you: we're up to our eyeballs in debt
Not a penny of this budget is actually coming from every penny the government spends this year will be coming from the pockets of shrewd lenders in China, Saudi Arabia and Israel, you know, our good buds who are always there to make sure America never goes without a meal. Thanks foreign banks who invest heavily in US Treasury Bonds! To indulge in some culturally relevant metaphor: you guys are the wealthy absent father enabling of father we never had. We're going to go ahead and charge this next binge, too. We know you won't mind.

We can't keep spending money we don't have!

In my political opinion ,if you want to start by helping the
recession we are going through, you might want to think about making
switches to the 401k programs in america. For instance, my financial
institute that does my 401 k will not allow me to take out of my 401
until i am retired. This is my money and if I want to borrow from it
I should not have to pay myself back. This is why americans can not
afford to take out there on hard worked money. This is rediculous in
my opinion and every one elses.

I agree with you Sharlene. They just keep throwing more money on the
war instead of spending the money on Americans here in American and
wounded soldiers coming home.

This is just more proof that Bush is an absolute idiot. Cut costs
everywhere you can, that takes care of hardworking Americans and send
more money towards an impossible war that is killing and maiming our
kids. While you're at it, cut the medical care given the maimed
Veterans who are being sent home with their lives destroyed. Keep
cutting out education and medical coverage, help for the devastated
areas of the country that Katrina and other catastrophic events have
hit, and we won't need any terrorists to take us out. Our own
government is doing a better job then anyone could imagine.

The military is spending about 500 billion so we are spending 2.6
trillion on running the goverment and entitlement programs. This is
runaway spending which needs to be reigned in.

Posted by Hal on 2/4/2008 11:41:48 PM
We cannot keep borrowing this money from these other governments as
it will cause too many problems down the line. We are going to have
to default down the line and that will send big ripples through the
world economy.

Almost half of the budget goes to Social Security, Medicare. Medicaid
and Medicare Presciption Drug benefit.

Posted by Ken on 2/4/2008 11:21:24 PM
I have always voted Republican as they used to be the party of fiscal
constraint. That has gone out the window and they are just as bad as
the Democrats.

Posted by Dave on 2/4/2008 10:46:56 PM
They have to pay for Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare and all of theother
programs they have put in place. how many millions of federal
employees are on the payroll.

Posted by Joe on 2/4/2008 10:33:33 PM
The costs that the Presidetn is wanting to spend in completely out of
line in what is happening in the country. we are in a recession and
we need to at last have a balanced budget.

Posted by Rog on 2/4/2008 10:21:51 PM
If the 3 trillion does not include the war, how much more in the hole
do we go when you factor in the war.

Posted by Yentle on 2/4/2008 10:15:12 PM
This is scary country when you can spend do much more money than
what you bring in. if people did this they would be in big trouble.

Posted by Rog on 2/4/2008 10:04:59 PM
How can he come up with such a budget when we ar ealready 10 trillion
in debt. What a way to run a country.

Posted by Jim on 2/4/2008 9:53:05 PM
This is why we all need to vote so these people do not get away with
this. Thye are completely unaccountable to the people they are
supposed to serve.

Posted by Nancy on 2/4/2008 9:43:24 PM
How much does the war cost just by itself. Like another trillion.

Posted by James on 2/4/2008 9:42:24 PM
Where can you go to get a detailed budget analysis of what they are
spending the money on. It does not make sense how they can spend so
much money.

Posted by on 2/4/2008 9:38:30 PM
Nancy - the scary part is that the War budge is separate. The 3.1
Billion does NOT include the war.

Posted by Nancy on 2/4/2008 9:34:05 PM
They is why we need to get the Republicans out of the White House but
I do not rust the Democrats either. How much of the money is going
toward the war.

Posted by George on 2/4/2008 9:24:59 PM
3 Trillion dollars. that is 3,000 billion dollars. Where do they
spend the money on.

Posted by James on 2/4/2008 8:08:22 PM
Money down the drain like usual. You cannto trust these guys with any
money as they will spend it.
