Huckleberry Hound: Huckabee wins West Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas

Mike Huckabee has won the caucus in West Virginia and the primaries in Georgia, Tennesee, Alabama and Arkansas making him the first winner of a Super Tuesday 2008 contest. It looks like supporters of John McCain decided to take the long view to best support their candidate; after McCain placed third behind Romney and Huckabee, the Arizona Senator's supporters switched their support to Huckabee, putting the former Arkansas governor over the top and earning him 18 delegates in the West Virginia race. He also won the primaries in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas.

The McCain camp is demonstrating a pretty shrewd command of electoral math, figuring that if this going to be a long race to the nomination, it's better to keep Huckabee around to siphon support from Romney than take the multi-millionaire self-financing candidate on head-to-head. It would be an understatement to say that Huckabee has outperformed expectations.

It's true that from this point forth his candidacy is essentially a buffer between Romney and McCain, but the fact that Huckabee, this guy from nowhere, who started with no name recognition and no money, won another contest and will make it to tomorrow is astounding. It's hard to imagine what future roll Huckabee has, but it's hard to imagine he'll stray to far from wherever in the action is in Republican politics for the next few years.

That kind of religous thinking is what has the Middle East in the
terrible shape it is in now. Let the best Candidate for the people
win.

We continue to pray God's will in this nomination process. We
believe Huckabee's the man but trust God to work it all out!

Dear Romney voters . . . please check out ***.MikeHuckabee*** and see
how he's a candidate for all Americans - a true conservative.

Now that Romney has dropped out of the race, there is only one true
Republican running for the Republican nomination and that’s Mike
Huckabee. If any of Mike’s supporters are reading this and haven’t
contributed to his campaign, please consider giving something. Like
most Conservatives, I give to charities not political candidates, but
I believe this election truly is a battle for the soul of America and
have contributed $150. Even though that's a meager amount, if only 1
million of Mike’s supporters will donate $100 - $150, he will be on a
level playing field with McCain. If you can’t afford $100, then at
least buy a shirt from Mike’s web store, or consider volunteering to
make phone calls. Please, please, please, let’s not allow the
Republican Party to nominate someone like McCain, who really should
be running as a Democrat.

Sure. Play the religion card. The last time I read an old religious
scholar's "game of telephone scripture" that has been changed over
and over 1,000,000 times ... God, Jesus, Mary and Joseph could give
two rusty rats who ends up President of the United States.

I am not suprised that John MCCain has taken command of the delegate
column. He will certainly be the nominee of the republican party. I
hope that he picks a vice president that will inspire his campaign
and win him those more difficult states during the general election.
Best of luck John MCCain.

Mike Huckabee is proving to the citizens that he can be a serious
threat and emerge as the nominee. For me he is a good choice but if
not elected I hope that they make him the vice presidential
candidate. He is fine and dignified man.
