Obama against gas tax holiday

Barack Obama agrees with many analysts who believe the gas tax holiday proposed by Hillary Clinton and supported by John McCain may actually raise gas prices by causing people to consume more gas. The gas tax holiday would also increase the federal deficit. Obama said today "This isn't an idea to get you through the summer; this is an idea to get them through an election."

And what about all the oil that was supposed to come out of Iraq
after the fall of Hussein, that was supposed to bring down the price
per barrel? Seems to me that it has only raised the price.

I just want the gas to go back to where it was six years ago. Before
the war, so called gas war.... where is the cheaper gas????? The
economy can't take these high prices, someone has to stop the oil
companies from charging whatever they feel like!!! Their profits over
the last couple of years could pay off the national dept!!! NOT
RIGHT FOR SOME TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL.

Finally, some experts are speaking out against this "plan". even if
congress and president Bush signed off on it tomorrow (which would be
highly unlikely in the first place) it would take months to make the
tax adjustment. further, it would deplete funds earmarked for badly
needed highway construction and cost potentially hundreds of
thousands of jobs this summer. I really love how Hillary Clinton
proposes to pay for it also, its really laughable. she'll place a
"windfall profits" tax on the big oil companies. yeah, right.
congress has been unable to pass such legislation for years, all of a
sudden they will now. This is a joke....

What good does it do to the economy, when it just puts the government
further and further in debt? We cannot afford to keep up our roads
and bridges in the country now. Many are becoming dangerously
under-maintained. This just seems like a cheap political ploy by
Clinton and McCain. At least Obama is honest.

Analysts suggest that a gas tax holiday for the summer would cause a
12 billion dollar deficit in the highway trust fund and cost 310,750
highway construction jobs. That surely is not good for the country.

I sure would like some relief. My business is having to give up many
clients that are too far away, due to the cost of rising gas prices.
We are losing money on these clients, due to rising gas costs.
