Army to inspect military barracks worldwide

The U.S. Army announced Tuesday that they are inspecting barracks worldwide, after deplorable conditions were revealed at fort Bragg, NC, including mold inside the barracks, peeling paint, busted pipes and backed up sewage. The conditions were revealed by the father of an 82nd Airborne soldier who recently returned from a 15 month tour of duty in Afghanistan. The father said he was disgusted by the conditions his son returned to: "We let our soldiers down. That's not how we want America's sons and daughters to live. There's no good excuse for what happened."

General Dennis Rogers, the person responsible for Army barracks maintenance, said most inspections were done over the weekend, but it was too soon to know if the Fort Bragg problem is an isolated incident.

you just dont know how hard it is to manage all the logistics of the
army with the limited funds they have. we dont even have the funds
for maintaining our troops in iraq and afganistan. if the country is
reallly upset about this, then give us more funds to fix these things!

I cannot understand how the Pentagon can let this kind of thing go on
year after year. In the business world people who fail at management
are fired. Why can't it be the same in the military?

we should not send none of the americans to war anymore cause we kill
our americans while they are there.

Steve, we ARE like the old Roman Empire! We're a society in slow
decline. Slow enough that we don't see it happening, like the eroding
of the military in so many ways.. not just the eroding of military
barracks.

The army is stretched too thin. The president and his entire bunch in
washington have failed. Congress is a mess of nothings that are there
for they own agenda or benefit. Will we be like the old Roman
Empire?

The real problem is that most people (including some yappers below)
have never been near a military base much less lived on one. Hanging
some general out to dry is a start but he's only the scapegoat.
Remember who really runs the military. That would be our civilian
leadership and not generals. Those appointed by the President and
those elected to congress. They are the people that determine
spending priorities, distribute funding allocations, and determine
the budget. Before anyone casts stones at either the Dems or GOPers;
they are ALL to blame. The second problem is the civilian leadership
by and large has a record of NOT having served in the military or
having their children serve in the military. This has created a
large disconnect between the people who run the military (civilians)
and those who serve in the military.

i agree with abby, nobody will do anything that can do something,
because all they do is sit on their behind some big desk, drinking a
tequila smoothie or something of that sort. They dont know how it is
for a soldier to have to go through such harsh conditions. ALl they
have is a third person view at the most
