President Bush delivered a speech in Israel, saying: There are good and decent people who cannot fathom the darkness in these men and try to explain away their words. It's natural, but it is deadly wrong. As witnesses to evil in the past, we carry a solemn responsibility to take these words seriously. Jews and Americans have seen the consequences of disregarding the words of leaders who espouse hatred. And that is a mistake the world must not repeat in the 21st century.

Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.
Spokepersons for President Bush say the speech was not directed at any one particular person. Some people have speculated he was talking about Barack Obama who has said he would meet with the President of Iran with no preconditions.

Bush Administration Puts Polar Bear on Endangered List
5/14/2008 5:00 PM
In a very controversial move, the Bush Administration has put the Polar Bear on the Endangered Species List. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had asked the Bush administration in January 2007 to give polar bears protection. The move is very controversial as it could effect our economy in dramatic ways. They could not really wait to act since a Federal Judge had given them a deadline to rule on the Polar Bear.

The danger to the Polar Bear are not really visible at this time as in fact there are more Polar Bears alive now than in 1950. The danger to them comes from melting artic snow, which some say may partially melt by 2050. The melting iof the ice caps is tied to the the Global Warning of this planet which many believe is caused by our carbon dioxide emmissions among other pollutants.
Environmentalists will now say that any attempts to drill for oil in the Alaska and other Artic areas as we try to bring in more oil production online to keep the rising price of oil in check could impact the Polar bear cauding long delays in getting needed permits.

Democrats Win Special Election in Mississippi Yesterday
5/14/2008 12:00 PM
In the third such victory in a row, Democrats took back another conservative area House seat. The Republicans lost a seat In a district won by George Bush by 25 points four years ago. Roger Wicker who was the Incumbent Republican won reelection with 66 percent of the vote in 2006 for that seat.

The seat was made available when Wicker was appointed earlier this year to the Senate seat vacated by Trent Lott who quit his Senate seat and left public service.

Republicans tried to portray the Democratic Candidate Travis Childers in step with Barack Obama but it did not work. Childers shot back with an ad saying he had never met Barack Obama. He ran on a conservative platform and won the elction by a 54% to 46% margin.
Republicans are in a bind caused by the erosion of confidence in the leadership of President Bush. He has severely tranished the Republican brand as evidence of what happened in the 2006 mid term elections and so far this year.

Bush Gets Approval ratings get Hammered by Iraq war and Weak economy
5/12/2008 4:00 PM
President Bush slipped to his career low in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll.

According to a new poll, the Bush's approval rating has dramatically dropped. 82 percent of Americans now say the country's seriously off on the wrong track. Those are record numbers and shows how much the Iraq War and the weakening economy is hurting Bush.

The timing of the poor numbers could hardly be worse. In the past two years, Democrats have taken control of the Senate and the House and are poised to take the Trifecta by capturing the Whitehouse in the fall. The numbers could also affect current House and Senate Republicans who are in danger of losing their once safe seats to Democrats.
2 out of 3 Americans do not believe the war in Iraq is worth fighting and consumer confidence has gone down due to worries about the economy. $4.00 a gallon gas and rising food prices are also taking their toll on working class families.

President Bush has been in contact with the Governor's of the states hit by the storms and has promised Federal Aid for the areas hard hit by the storms.

John McCain distances himself from George Bush
5/1/2008 2:50 PM
Republican Presidential candidate John McCain attempted to distance himself a bit from the President today, saying "I objected strenuously to the way the war in Iraq was being conducted. I believe that climate change has got to be addressed meaningfully". He said there are a number of issues where he disagrees with Bush, but "At the end of the day, people are going to judge me on what they think I will be as President of the United States, not on anybody else."

An NBC/WSJ poll shows that 43% of Americans have major concerns to McCain's ties to President Bush. McCain has to be very careful how far he goes. If he distances himself too much, he runs the risk of alienating the Republican base. If not enough, he looks like Bush, the sequel.

President Bush advocated opening the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration during his news conference today. Senator Charles Schumer responded afterward that such a move will do nothing to alleviate high gasoline prices, as it will take ten years before new oil could be produced and then only reduce the price of gas by a penny a gallon. President Bush also chided the congress for blocking efforts to reduce electricity prices in the country by expanding clean, safe nuclear power production.

Bush presses Congress on student loan reform
4/29/2008 2:45 PM
In his news conference today, Bush urged congress to act on a bill that would temporarily give the federal government greater authority to buy student loans. He asserted that the plan would safeguard student loans without permanently expanding the government's role in their financing.

Students have lost access to over 6.9 billion per year in student loans. Many lenders have left the market since the federal government cut their subsidies. Many investors who were hurt by the mortgage crisis are avoiding buying student loan backed bonds.
