4/30/2008 11:00 AM
The U.S. now has two aircraft carriers in the Gulf region. The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in the Gulf yesterday. Defense Secretary Robert Gates describes the arrival as a reminder to Iran. Iran allegedly has been privately working in its abilty to produce nuclear weapons even though publicly is says it is not.

Iranian official warns of Barbie Doll and other Western cultural Dangers
4/29/2008 10:45 AM
In Iran, a society where women are not allowed to go out in public with scarves and body coverings, a Judical official is now saying Barbie Dolls and other Western cultural items are posing a threat. Some of the Barbie Dolls may have bikinis and this is very disturbing to a country where men and women cannot even swim together. In the 90's the Iranian government even went so far into saying that Barbie and other Western culture were a Trojan Horse planted by the West into Iran. In 2002 they even tried confiscating the dolls from store shelves but that was shut down as it did not really stem the tide of dolls into the country. The Iranian officials want to keep Western values and symbols away from their youth to preserve their way of life.

Barack Obama and John McCain went back and fourth on Iraq today. McCain has been traveling in the Middle East and has provided plenty of wisdom about the situation along the way, including a much publicized gaffe where he accused Iran of funding and arming Al Qaeda in Iraq. He's repeated the claim twice since then.

Obama has picked up on this (between shots at Hillary Clinton). "Maybe that is why he voted to go to war with a country that had no Al Qaeda ties," Obama said. "Maybe that is why he completely fails to understand that the war in Iraq has done more to embolden America's enemies than any strategic choice that we have made in decades."
The McCain camp's response was hardly a sound bite. "Iran, which trains Shia extremists and is known to arm and equip Sunni extremists, a fact Senator Obama is apparently unaware of, will also view our premature withdrawal as a victory, as will other countries in the region, and the biggest state supporter of terrorists, a country with nuclear ambitions and a stated desire to destroy the State of Israel, will see its influence in the Middle East grow significantly," said a spokesman who clearly struggles breaking different thoughts down into separate sentences.

When our national leaders bicker this way, there's only one clear winner: Terror.

It wasn't any kind of explosive device that ripped John McCainto shreds as he toured Iraq today, it was the sheer destructive power of his own mouth.

Don't worry, he's perfectly healthy, alive, well and running for president. But the presumptive Republican nominee for president told reporters that it is "widely known" that Iran is training and providing material support to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Tim Dickinson of Rolling Stone points out that, "Al Qaeda and Iran are on separate sides of a schism that has existed in Islam for the last 13 centuries or so," and thus McCain's assertion is more than just highly unlikely– it's completely factually incorrect.

McCain has been in Congress since before time began. He has loads of "foreign policy experience." He was fought in wars. He has spent years buried in a box underground. But wen it comes to Iraq, he's completely clueless. That's why he was going down in flames last summer.
With the situation there somewhat improved, people forgot how out of touch this guy is. Thanks to comments like this one, McCain won't let the public go too much longer without reminding them.

More details are emerging today regarding the actions taken immediately following Benazir Bhutto's assassination. The new revelations reveal a scene more chaotic than initially thought. Athar Minallah, a lawyer and board member for Rawalpindi General Hospital claims Pakistani police prevented an autopsy on Benazir Bhutto. Aziz Saud the police chief at the center of the allegations is telling various media outlets that he suggested an autopsy be performed, but that Bhutto's family objected. If the allegations against Saud are true, it would be a violation of Pakistani law, according to Minallah.

There have been conflicting reports as to the cause of death of Mrs. Bhutto. Initial reports after the assassination claimed she was shot in the neck. Pakistan's Interior Ministry initially claimed the cause of death was shrapnel from the explosion that followed the gunshots.
A few hours later they claimed Bhutto died from a skull fracture that occurred as she ducked into her vehicle and hit her head on the sunroof latch. The Pakistani government has offered to exhume Bhutto's body, but her family refused.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the 19 year old son of slain Pakistan former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been selected to lead The Pakistan Peoples Party. The selection is a ceremonial one - Zardari is a student at Oxford University and will remain there for 3 years until he graduates. His father, his controversial father, Asif Ali Zardari will lead the party until Zardari takes over. It is hoped that the anointing of her son will lead an emotionally charged electorate to the polls. After speculation that there would be a boycott by one or both opposition parties, the parliamentary election will move forward as planned for Jan. 8.
